Gallup Study: Northcentral University Alumni Report Superior Outcomes
Research indicates that alumni succeed personally, professionally, and as leaders in their communities
SAN DIEGO, March 18, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Research released today by Northcentral University (NCU) sheds new light on the outcomes of a graduate degree from the nonprofit, 100 percent online university. A study by research giant, Gallup, Inc., included survey responses from over two thousand NCU alumni and measured post-graduation success with a range of indicators, such as professional satisfaction, community involvement, and personal well-being.
Results indicate that NCU alumni experience superior outcomes when compared with data from three groups: graduates who completed at least half of their classes online, alumni of Carnegie schools classified as Research Doctoral Professional-dominant, and graduates from WSCUC (WASC Senior College and University Commission) institutions.
"Students are at the core of our mission at Northcentral, so these positive results are encouraging to our entire team," said Dr. David Harpool, President of NCU. "Knowing that our alumni report thriving both professionally and personally is confirmation that our student-centric, regionally-accredited approach yields positive results."
Research partner Gallup defined and assessed post-graduate outcomes across five elements, including feeling a sense of purpose professionally, social connection, financial success, community involvement, and physical well-being. Notably, NCU alumni reported thriving across all five at a rate that exceeds comparison groups. Other highlights of the study include:
- Thriving Professionally: NCU alumni report finding meaningful purpose in their careers post-graduation at a rate 6-10 percent higher than all three comparison groups. NCU graduates are also at least 8 percent more likely to report being engaged intellectually and emotionally at work. Overall, 90 percent of NCU alums surveyed reported working in a field related to their graduate degree.
- Community Leadership: Recipients of an NCU degree reported high rates of community involvement. Nearly four out of five (79%) NCU alumni reported having volunteered or participated in public service since graduating – higher than graduate alumni who completed their degrees half-plus online (69%), their WSCUC peers (71%), and others in their Carnegie class (73%).
- Financial Well-Being: NCU graduates reported positive financial outcomes post-graduation at a rate 8-15 percent higher than those of the comparison groups.
Additionally, an overwhelming majority of alumni surveyed (90 percent) agreed with the statement that "NCU was the perfect school for people like me," citing individualized offerings like NCU's 1:1 teaching model and the flexibility of studying online.
"As educators and administrators, the success of our students is both the purpose and the real reward of our work," said Dr. John LaNear, Provost and Chief Academic Officer at NCU. "We're looking forward to continuing to improve the experience and outcomes of NCU students and alumni in 2019."
