According to a Gallo Family Vineyards survey, Americans uncork an average of six bottles of wine during the holidays.[1] For the fourth year in a row, those leftover corks can make a difference for a great cause. Taking part in the Every Cork Counts campaign is as easy as uncorking a bottle of one of Gallo Family Vineyards' delicious wines and mailing in the cork.
For every cork collected through December 31, 2013*, Gallo Family Vineyards will donate $5 to Meals On Wheels with a maximum donation of $100,000. Over the past three years, Gallo Family Vineyards has collected thousands of corks and donated more than $225,000 to support the needs of seniors in communities across the country.
"We are committed to supporting Meals on Wheels in its effort to end senior hunger through the Every Cork Counts program," said Stephanie Gallo, Vice President of Marketing at E&J Gallo Winery and third generation Gallo family member. "It allows us to raise awareness of hunger in America and also creates an easy way for the families who bring our wines to their tables during the holidays to help those in need."
Fans of the winery and the charity can also participate in the program by playing a fun, interactive game at EveryCorkCounts.com. One in every six seniors faces the threat of hunger every day, and funds raised from the campaign will help provide nutritious meals and a safety check to those in need.
"With one in six seniors facing the threat of hunger every day, we are extremely grateful for our continued partnership with Gallo Family Vineyards through the Every Cork Counts campaign," says Ellie Hollander, President and CEO of the Meals On Wheels Association of America. "Through this campaign, Gallo is helping us to raise national awareness about this growing epidemic of senior hunger in America."
