Gale's Encyclopedia.com Named 2010 CODiE Award Winner
Authoritative Online Resource Recognized for Second Year
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Gale, part of Cengage Learning, announced that Encyclopedia.com (http://www.encyclopedia.com) was named the 2010 CODiE Award winner for Best Online Consumer Information Service.
The Software & Information Industry Association's (SIIA) 25th Annual CODiE Awards, the only peer-reviewed honor in the industry, celebrate achievement and vision in software, education technology and digital content. Encyclopedia.com also received the CODiE Award in 2008 for the Best Online General Reference Service.
Encyclopedia.com, a free online resource with more than 500,000 entries from over 200 different encyclopedias and dictionaries, provides authoritative answers that are verifiable against multiple sources. Documents about a single subject are combined to form interactive topic pages, allowing users to browse multiple reference sources, images, videos, and other related information all on one easy-to-navigate page. A good example can be seen on the Encyclopedia.com topic page for Abraham Lincoln: http://www.encyclopedia.com/topic/Abraham_Lincoln.aspx
"Receiving the prestigious CODiE award recognizing Encyclopedia.com as a world-class consumer information product is an honor," said Dave Guttman, General Manager, Senior Vice President of Open Web at Gale. "We are proud to provide Web users greater access to more content, helping consumers make informed decisions and supporting libraries in their efforts to engage and assist their users."
"With a growing number of Web users seeking credible consumer information, Encyclopedia.com is able to provide trusted, editorially verified content," continued Guttman. "The fact that we have experienced a 500 percent increase in traffic in the last two years shows we are filling an important need for information."
Encyclopedia.com joined Gale through the acquisition of HighBeam Research in 2008 and now provides value to both individual users and Gale's core library partners. Encyclopedia.com will soon enable library patrons to access millions of reference articles from Gale Virtual Reference Library for free, courtesy of their local libraries.
