Gale Signs New Publishers, Increases STEM Content in Virtual Reference Library
Adds Taylor & Francis, Mitchell Lane, HCPro and World Scientific e-books to Platform
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., Oct. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- New content covering popular healthcare and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) topics is now available on Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL), the e-book platform offered by Gale, part of Cengage Learning. The signing of publishers Taylor & Francis, Mitchell Lane, HCPro and World Scientific combined will add approximately 750 e-books to GVRL, bringing the total number of available titles on the platform to 15,000 from over 150 publishing partners.
"The addition of this new material answers customer demand for more STEM content and is another example of the transformation of GVRL beyond a reference platform to a dynamic research experience for all types of users – from kindergarten to college and beyond," said Frank Menchaca, senior vice president, global product management for Gale.
Gale is adding hundreds of titles for the STEM market, for which occupations are expected to grow 17 percent by 2018, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. To answer this demand, Gale is adding more than 360 titles from Taylor & Francis, one of the world's leading publishers of scholarly journals, books, eBooks, textbooks and reference works spanning all areas of humanities, social sciences, behavioral sciences, science, technology and medicine. The new titles, including many monographs, will cover STEM topics such as cyber security, criminology, nursing and accounting. These titles will complement more than 300 titles from World Scientific, a leading international STEM publisher for the academic and special markets.
New content covering nurse leadership in acute care and long term care settings, HIPAA training and compliance, and medical coding will be added from HCPro, a leading provider of integrated information, education, training, and consulting products and services in the vital areas of healthcare regulation and compliance. These e-books are appropriate for community college and university nursing programs, as well as hospital libraries, and will provided much-needed, current information on the Affordable Healthcare Act and its impact.
In addition, meeting customer demand for more early literacy content, Gale is adding more than 80 titles from Mitchell Lane, a leading K-12 publisher. The new titles cover government, countries, world cultures and economics for grades 4-8, and are designed to meet the needs of common core skills instruction.
GVRL offers user-friendly features such as ReadSpeaker technology (text-to-speech functionality) article translation, online book browse, and the ability to download articles as PDFs for offline access. GVRL allows unlimited concurrent users and downloads.
