CHICAGO, June 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Students and teachers can have online access to the best resources in the world, but if they have to spend time struggling with various usernames and passwords to find them, the resulting frustration and wasted time can derail their success. Today at the 2017 American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference and Exhibition, Gale, a Cengage company, announced enhancements that blaze new trails in the areas of access and discovery, allowing even more users to quickly and easily connect to their library's resources. Through improved authentication protocol, integrated single sign-on (SSO) options through ClassLink, Clever, Google and Microsoft and the expansion of resources available through EBSCO Discovery Service and other discovery service providers, more students and teachers will effortlessly access their library's collections and from more paths.
"At Gale, our goal is to optimize our content to be easily discoverable in all services, regardless of the tool a library chooses now or in the future," said Liz Mason, vice president, Gale Product. "These new enhancements make significant progress along the path of ensuring that all students and teachers have easy access to the valuable content and technology they need to support learning."
To support the creation of a seamless workflow for students and teachers, many of Gale's products are now integrated with G Suite for Education and Microsoft Office 365, enabling users to easily access, share, save and download content. With these latest enhancements, users can now access Gale using their institutional Gmail and Microsoft credentials.
Mason continued, "These new access options further extend our Google and Microsoft integration features. Users benefit from ease of access to their institution's library-provided Gale resources and can then easily take advantage of the unique features that allow them to share documents and use the G Suite for Education and Microsoft collaboration tools. We expect libraries will see even higher use of their Gale resources and higher levels of satisfaction and success for their users."
Offering this type of authentication using Google and Microsoft to nearly all of its products, Gale is leading the way in ensuring that learners are connected to library resources quickly and easily. In addition, single sign-on (SSO) to Gale resources is available through popular K-12 education services, such as ClassLink and Clever.
Users can also access many Gale products through apps available for free download on the Chrome Web Store, making it easier to access content from their mobile devices.
Also Illustrative of Gale's commitment to discovery, 10 additional Gale resources will be available through EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS), making them discoverable for mutual customers. This brings the number of databases and resources discoverable through EDS to 45 with a commitment to add at least 10 more in 2018. New resources available on EDS, include:
- Business Insights: Global
- Contemporary Authors
- CPI.Q
