Galaxy of Luminaries Expected at New York League of Conservation Voters' Gala on May 17
NEW YORK, May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- A galaxy of luminaries from the worlds of philanthropy, corporate leadership, politics and environmental advocacy will shine on Monday, May 17th at the New York League of Conservation Voters' "Celebrating a Greener New York" Gala in New York City.
More than 600 guests are expected for the elegant event, which will feature Mayor Michael Bloomberg as keynote speaker, and humorist, actor and writer Mo Rocca as emcee.
Several organizations and individuals will be honored for their exemplary environmental leadership. Three will receive NYLCV's 2010 Environmental Champion Award: Julie Menin -- civic leader, television host and commentator and Chairperson of Manhattan Community Board 1 – for her successful efforts to build New York City's first "green" school and her support of green initiatives in Lower Manhattan; New York University, which has taken significant steps toward reducing its environmental footprint and embedding sustainability as a core principle; and Frank Sciame, of F. J. Sciame Construction Co., Inc., which has been at the forefront of managing major green building projects in New York.
NYLCV will present the Walking Green Award to Jim Hagedorn, environmental philanthropist and CEO of the Scotts Miracle-Gro Company, while youth organizer and social entrepreneur Billy Parish will receive the Generation Green Award.
Among the many VIPs expected to attend are: Sen. Charles Schumer, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Rockefeller, Thomas E. L. Dewey, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Roosevelt IV and V, and New York Republican Party Chairman Edward Cox.
Proceeds from the event will support the New York League of Conservation Voters' efforts to elect pro-environment leaders and advocate for pro-environment legislation in Albany and in communities throughout New York State.
NYLCV's "Celebrating a Greener New York" Gala will take place on Monday, May 17, at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers, New York City. Cocktail hour begins at 6:30 p.m. and dinner begins at 7:30 p.m.
