SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 22, 2012/PRNewswire/ -- GainSpan® Corporation, a leading developer of ultra-low power embedded Wi-Fi solutions, and UK-based Corintech Ltd., announced that Corintech has expanded its data logger line with the introduction of its first Wi-Fi data logging sensors--the EL-WiFi. Incorporating GainSpan low-power Wi-Fi modules, the new EL-WiFi line now makes it possible for users to remotely monitor an environment. The sensors seamlessly stream data to a PC, back end server or cloud based service using a standard Wi-Fi network, without users having to manually collect data.
The first product in the line, the EL-WiFi-TH, is an easy-to-use Wi-Fi temperature and humidity data logging sensor. The sensor measures temperature and humidity and then transmits data via Wi-Fi to a PC running Corintech's free software package. The user need only connect the sensor to the PC once to configure it;after that, everything can be done remotely. Users can view one or multiple sensors on the PC at any one time. And, users can change the settings on the sensors as well as set alarms—all remotely. If the network connection is lost, the unit will automatically log and store readings in memory; once the network is restored all readings will be uploaded to the PC.
The EL-WiFi-TH is well-suitedfor use wherever the temperature or humidity of sensitive materials, food products or manufacturing processes have to be monitored and controlled such as in healthcare, pharmaceutical, food, agriculture, but also for temperature control in buildings and server rooms.
Corintech will bring to market additional products in the line later this year, all powered by GainSpan Wi-Fi technology. The products include the EL-WiFi-TP with a probe and extended temperature range, and the EL-WiFi-Alert, which communicates high and low alert messages from any EL-WiFi sensor via email and SMS.
"While wireless provides the convenience of locating these sensors in places that are difficult to access, Wi-Fi based sensors can be located almost anywhere thanks to the extensive Wi-Fi infrastructure and hotspots that exist for commercial applications," said Sean Wigmore, managing director at Corintech. "The GainSpan GS1011 MIP's low power consumption was critical for our applications which require running on a battery for an extended period of time."
"Corintech is a leader in the field of data logging products and was first to develop a successful line of USB products. We are expecting equal success in their wireless products as they roll out their new family of Wi-Fi devices. As such, we are very excited about the possibility of collaborating with them on their next generation of products," said David Casey, vice president of sales, GainSpan. "We strongly believe that Wi-Fi enabled data loggers will significantly expand in the market and open up new applications."
