Gain Insight Into New York's $360 Million Tech Budget
IT and Telecommunications Commissioner Carole Post to Discuss City-wide Plans
RESTON, Va., July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Contractors will gain insight into New York City's numerous technology initiatives at INPUT and TechAmerica's State and Local Executive Breakfast. The event features newly-appointed commissioner of the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT), Carole Post.
DoITT oversees the city's use of existing and emerging technologies in government operations, and its delivery of services to the public. The department works to improve efficiency through technology, and to make communication with the government straightforward and clear. Post was appointed on December 30, 2009 by Mayor Michael Bloomberg and began her term on January 19, 2010. Previously, she was the director of agency services at the New York City Mayor's Office of Operations, where she led a team of technical and policy advisors who oversaw the agency's performance and helped coordinate strategic initiatives vital to the mayor's vision for New York City.
Vendors can expect to find potential opportunities related to the New York City government's transparency initiatives: last month, Post testified before the New York City Council Committee on Technology regarding open data standards for city agencies. As commissioner of the DoITT, Post said that the agency is committed to transparency; at the same time, she stressed the need for preserving data integrity, strengthening the capacity of a universal warehousing system, and ensuring information security, as it continues to develop applications for public use.
Other topics to be addressed at the breakfast include:
- Post's responsibility in her respective role and vision for her leadership role
- How DoITT will put to work its $360 million budget for FY 2011 and where partners can help
- Emerging technology initiatives in New York City
- Plans to improve technology-driven public services with an emphasis on transparency, accountability, and accessibility
The event will also feature Tim Brett, senior manager, state and local information services at INPUT, who will identify major technology investments within New York City and top opportunities for technology vendors in 2010.
