SAN FRANCISCO, June 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- A first-day session at the upcoming GAI AgTech Week, an inaugural event celebrating the emerging agricultural technology industry, will invite companies seeking access to capital to make impromptu elevator pitches to the "Farmers' Market," a panel of prominent venture capital and private equity investors, as well as a host of major investors in the audience. A new initiative of Global AgInvesting, the premier agriculture investment conference series, AgTech Week will bring agriculture investors and industry participants together in San Francisco for three days beginning June 22, 2015.
Scheduled for the conclusion of the first day of AgTech Week, the interactive "Farmers' Market" panel will be facilitated by Mitchell Presser, the head of U.S. mergers and acquisitions at the global law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP. Panelists will include Mark Kahn from agriculture-focused venture capital firm Omnivore Partners; Brook Porter from traditional venture capital firm Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers; and Andrew Freeman from food and agriculture-focused private equity firm Paine + Partners. After giving initial thoughts on how companies in the agriculture space can and should seek capital, the panel will invite pitches from attendees with capital needs, including those considering initial public offerings, strategic partners, and private equity investments, and give real time feedback.
"I expect this interactive session to be extremely entertaining, and even more insightful," said Presser, who prior to joining Freshfields was a founding partner of Paine + Partners, a $1.2 billion fund focused on agribusiness. "I expect that attendees will learn a great deal about how investors approach the agriculture technology sector and what it takes to attract capital. We may even see a deal get made."
A longtime observer of agricultural technology-related businesses, Presser has been involved in a number of agtech investments, including Paine + Partners' 2012 acquisition of Eurodrip SA, a leading international drip irrigation company.
GAI AgTech Week will feature three days of programming covering topics ranging from efficient water use to agtech accelerators, as well as a June 24 keynote and Q&A session with Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack.
