G2 Consulting Group Selected for MDOT 'As-Needed' Contract
Agreement paves the way for G2 to participate on future Michigan infrastructure projects
TROY, Mich., Jan. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has named G2 Consulting Group, a nationally recognized, Troy-based geotechnical, environmental and construction services firm, as one of its pre-approved engineering teams through an "as-needed" indefinite service contract.
G2's selection for the three-year MDOT agreement is a result of the company's past performance on MDOT projects and its design and geotechnical engineering capabilities in service areas deemed critical for future planned projects. Road reconstruction in Michigan has become a top priority for the state's leadership team, with Gov. Snyder proposing to raise an additional $1.2 billion to maintain and improve vital infrastructure.
"We have the know-how and capability to bring real added value to road design and construction," says Mark Smolinski, G2's president. "With all the construction projects and all the roadwork being done in Michigan these days, we welcome this opportunity to contribute."
G2 has worked on MDOT projects for two decades and continues to assist in a number of capacities. Fast on the heels of engineering critical retention walls for the recently completed $180 million I-96 reconstruction project in Wayne County, G2 is part of the team completing the $76 million I-94/I-69 interchange reconstruction in St. Clair County. G2 also earned an ACEC Excellence Award for similar work completed on the MDOT I-94/Sargent Road interchange project in Jackson County, MI.
Both the I-96 and I-94/I-69 projects were set up on tight budgets and tight time frames, and G2 helped both stay on budget and on time. In fact, the I-96 project was completed in one of the most compressed timelines ever accomplished for a project of its scope - two weeks ahead of schedule - enabling an early and welcome reopening of the busy freeway that accommodates tens of thousands of motorists daily.
"With MDOT and all of our public and private clients, our goal is always to help get the job done smarter and faster," says Smolinski. "We work with our partners to do whatever's required to assure that our part of the job goes smoothly and stays within budget. That's what our clients expect from us, and we pride ourselves on delivering on our promise – Smart. Results. Fast."
