Future of Near-Zero Emissions Technology Showcased At Society of Environmental Journalists Annual Conference
Advanced Clean Diesel Equipment Provides Immediate Large-Scale Emissions Reductions . . . And Will Lead Clean Air & Efficiency Improvements into The Future
SACRAMENTO, Calif., Sept. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- With several hundred environmental reporters and policymakers gathering at the Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) 26th Annual Conference this week, attendees are getting a first-hand opportunity to examine some of the most advanced near-zero emission technology responsible for major emission reductions throughout the U.S. and world.
The journalists and policymakers have been touring the Diesel Technology Forum's "Meeting the Climate and Clean Air Challenge for the Future" Learning Center, which includes a diverse display of fuel-efficient commercial trucks, top-selling diesel pickup trucks, power generation, and construction and agricultural machinery available today.

"The title of this year's SEJ conference in California is 'Land of Extremes: Home of Big Ideas' and our exhibit is a prime example of California's influence on environmental improvements in transportation and off-road equipment," said Allen Schaeffer, the Executive Director of the Diesel Technology Forum. "Together with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, national environmental and health organizations, and the diesel manufacturers, important environmental improvements in diesel equipment and fuels have emerged over the past 15 years.

The Forum's Learning Center is located at the Doubletree by Hilton Sacramento, where the SEJ conference is being held, and is open from:
- Thursday, September 22nd, Noon to 9 p.m.
- Thursday, September 22nd, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Hospitality Reception for SEJ attendees and policymakers
- Friday, September 23rd, 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Friday Night "Beat Dinner" To Focus On Impact of Environmental Reporting
On Friday night from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., the Forum will host a "Beat Dinner" for SEJ attendees at the Fox and Goose Public House and Restaurant. This will include a round table discussion led by Chris Bowman, a former Senior Environmental Reporter for the Sacramento Bee, discussing how journalists gauge the impact of their reporting on environmental progress.
"In the late 1990s and early 2000s, environmental reporting played a major role in shaping how policymakers, the environmental community and industry moved forward in establishing new standards which resulted in today's clean diesel technology," Schaeffer said. "We feel that our industries progression into cleaner engines, reduced emissions, and improved efficiency is, in part, the result of environmental journalism that outlined the needed improvements."

Some of the technology on display includes:
- The first plug-in hybrid Class 8 truck that will help improve air quality for communities near port and freight activity;
- Some of the latest top-selling pickup trucks that run clean and have impressive fuel economy;
- Agricultural equipment that can be operated by a tablet to boost productivity and save fuel;
- And the latest locomotive engine that will power California's goods movement industry while reducing emissions by more than 90 percent.
