Full Tilt Poker Pro Jeff Madsen Wins 2010 Borgata Winter Poker Open
DUBLIN, February 10 /PRNewswire/ --
- Madsen Banks More Than US$625K for the Victory
Full Tilt Poker pro Jeff Madsen wins the 2010 Borgata Winter Poker Open, taking home over US$625,000 for the victory. With this score, Madsen has now earned more than US$3 million playing live poker tournaments throughout the world.
The 2010 Borgata Winter Poker Open attracted a total of 766 players for its US$3,500 buy-in Main Event, creating a prize pool worth more than US$2.5 million. Taking place in Atlantic City, this annual winter tradition is a staple for East Coast players, along with top poker professionals such as Full Tilt Poker pros Gavin Smith, Roy Winston, Bill Gazes and Steve Brecher.
Madsen cruised through the opening days of the tournament, including ending the second day of play as the overall chip leader. Entering the 10-handed final table with more than three million in chips, Madsen was in prime position to take down the tournament.
The pivotal moment of the final table came when play was seven-handed. Madsen, holding Ah-Kh, pushed all in pre-flop and was called by an opponent with pocket Kings. The board ran out 4h-Qc-9d-3h-Qh, giving Madsen the nut flush and propelling him to the top of the chip count.
There was no looking back for Madsen after that hand. He went on to dominate the remaining action, knocking out four of the final six players. Nearly even in chips with his opponent at the start of heads-up play, Madsen wore him down over time and took a 2-to-1 chip lead. The final hand came when Madsen's K-10 held up versus his opponent's Q-2, sealing the victory for one of poker's best young players.
The 24-year-old Madsen has now earned more than US$3 million during his short career. Madsen exploded onto the poker scene during the 2006 World Series of Poker, becoming the youngest player to win two bracelets during in the same year - a record which still stands to this day.
