Fuel Education Introduces 70 New High School Courses in its Expanded 2015-2016 Catalog
Multiple Curriculum Levels Provide More Options for High Achievers and Help Students Prepare for High Stakes Tests
HERNDON, Va., March 12, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As school districts across the country seek to expand high school course options, improve academic outcomes, and help students prepare for state exams and high stakes tests—personalized learning solutions provider Fuel Education (FuelEd™) has added 70 new high school courses to its online catalog for the 2015-2016 school year. These new courses—many available in multiple versions suitable for students working at a wide variety of levels—give FuelEd customers the offering they need to satisfy the needs of specific student segments.
FuelEd offers schools and districts a comprehensive portfolio of more than 500 unique courses and titles for pre-K through 12th grade. As part of the portfolio, the FuelEd Online Courses high school curriculum now includes more than 230 courses, including more than 75 electives and 35 world language courses, most delivered with Spanish translation, text to speech, and dictionary support. The courses, which are designed to be used in class, at home, in a blended program, or in a fully online environment, are now available in multiple levels: Core, Comprehensive, Honors, and AP®, plus Remediation and Credit Recovery for students who need extra help.
For high achievers, FuelEd Online Courses includes 14 AP® courses, and has added 15 Honors courses. Honors courses hold students to a greater degree of accountability, and demand even greater independence and self-discipline. Students work with concepts from multiple sources and read college-level texts. Students also demonstrate college-level writing ability.
Students taking the new high school courses will be better prepared for Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) and Smarter Balanced Assessments, because the courses are fully aligned with state and national standards, and the students will be accustomed to completing work and taking tests online. Further, all science courses integrate STEM principles.
"School districts face the complex challenge of not only meeting the diverse needs of high school students, but also preparing them for high stakes tests and graduation, whether they are college or career bound," said FuelEd general manager Gregg Levin. "With our new, expanded high school curriculum, our school and district partners can offer more course options, at varying levels, that help students develop 21st century skills and position them for success beyond graduation."
Key features of the new FuelEd Online Courses for high school include:
- Research-based curriculum – identifies the "Big Ideas" of a subject area as well as the concepts that are stumbling blocks for many students;
- Clear layout of objectives to be mastered in each lesson, unit, and semester – crafted from educational research, the best state and national standards, and deep content expertise;
- Easy-to-navigate online content – including summaries and reviews, with more time and effort spent on the hardest, most important topics and skills;
- Engaging interactive content – illustrates and explains the toughest concepts in ways no static page (print or Web) could ever match;
- Online (or physical) labs, books, and writing – designed to give sufficient practice in key skills that students must master, as well as challenging problems and assignments to develop each student's ability to apply what they've learned in new circumstances; and
- Clear assessment tools – to measure mastery of lesson objectives.
