FTC Orlando Hosts Largest Educational Conference in Florida of Drupal Web Developers
More than 4,000 jobs are available in the region for IT professionals.
ORLANDO, Fla., April 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 300 web developers from all over the world met at Florida Technical College, Orlando, for two days of learning, networking, and professional advancement during Florida DrupalCamp 2015. The event comes on the heels of the White House's launch of the TechHire initiative, which seeks to fill more than 400,000 IT jobs. It is estimated that 4,300 of those are in Central Florida.
Drupal is a popular, free content management system. It is used to build everything from personal blogs to a diversity of business applications. Millions of websites are powered by Drupal, including WhiteHouse.gov, Grammys.com and Stanford.edu.
"This truly is a gathering of the minds that make the world move and we are proud to be hosting it," said FTC President David Ruggieri of the event held April 11-12. "These developers are the people who make it possible for us to register for a class online, buy tickets to a concert from a phone, and file taxes with a few clicks. They are vital to our society and to our economy."
Florida Technical College offers Bachelor's Degrees in Information Technology, Web Design and Programming, as well as Associate Degrees in Computer Information Science.
Ben Hoismer, a DrupalCamp's organizer, said events like this help IT professionals maintain competitive skills, while providing an opportunity for students to interact and learn from experts.
"The demand for IT professionals will continue to increase but the bar is also being raised for all of us in the industry," Hoismer said. "The web is no longer a place that can only be accessed with phones and PCs. Its applications have grown exponentially. Every household appliance, cars, medical devices and more are being built with the capability to access the web for a practical application."
This is the third consecutive year that FTC hosts the camp.
