Throughout the year, customers were invited to register on the company's website to be entered in a drawing to win an ounce of gold. One lucky individual, DeeDee Katopodis of Carolina Center for Oral and Facial Surgery was chosen to receive the golden coin valued at approximately $1715.
The Charlotte-based office supply company has been celebrating this milestone all year long with the celebrations culminating with an all employee dinner gala at Pine Lake Country Club in Mint Hill, N.C. The evening included a silent auction benefiting City of Hope, musical entertainment and various speakers.
As a token of appreciation to Jimmy Godwin and his wife Diane for their 50 years of devotion in building the company, they were presented with The Lifetime Achievement Award. Attendees were also treated to a surprise fireworks show at the conclusion of the night.
A company-wide meeting ensued the following morning where plans for the company's future growth were discussed.
This event also included the presentation of The Jimmy Awards; awards named after FSI's founder, Jimmy Godwin, for employees voted on by employees. Two of the most coveted awards include Employee of the Year and Rookie of the Year. This year's voting for both of these awards resulted in a tie. Human Resources Manager, Yvette Sullivan and Director of Purchasing Doug Whetstone were honored as Employees of the Year. The Rookie of the Year award went to Anthony Martin, a customer service representative in Greensboro and Kelly Sicilia, a sales rep in the Hilton Head area.
Two of the Jimmys were designed to recognize manufacturers with which FSI partners. This year's Vendor of the Year award was given to the Hon Company. The Vendor Rep of the Year award went to Todd Ware, the Hon representative for FSI.
At the conclusion of the awards ceremony, Godwin chose a number at random, which determined the winner from a spreadsheet with every single employee's name. The lucky winner this time was Jeff Goble, the Furniture Warehouse Manager at the Charlotte headquarters.
"My name was called and everyone stood up with applause but I sat there for a few seconds and thought 'are you kidding me'? I finally made my way to the stage to accept the gold coin. What a moment to remember!" said Goble.
