FRONTLINE, PBS and WGBH's Acclaimed Investigative Documentary Series, Launches New Podcast, The FRONTLINE Dispatch
First Season of Original Audio Documentaries Distributed by PRX Begins Sept. 14
BOSTON, Sept. 5, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- FRONTLINE, the acclaimed PBS investigative documentary outlet, today announced the September 14 launch of The FRONTLINE Dispatch, a new narrative podcast that expands the series' tradition of tough, fair and deeply-reported long form journalism into the audio space.
Each episode of The FRONTLINE Dispatch will focus on uncovering crucial domestic and international stories, and will unfold with the sensibility of FRONTLINE's award-winning documentaries — but will cover different ground, be told natively for audio, and be narrated by reporters around the country and the world.
"At FRONTLINE, now and always, we are committed to in-depth, transparent journalism — and we care deeply about reaching audiences wherever they are, with stories that are vital and authentic," says FRONTLINE Executive Producer Raney Aronson-Rath, who will introduce each episode of The FRONTLINE Dispatch. "Extending our storytelling into the podcast realm, in a native way that brings all the depth and quality our audience expects from FRONTLINE's documentaries, is a natural next step."
The FRONTLINE Dispatch's first season begins Thursday, September 14, with an exploration into child marriage in America. New episodes on second chances for juvenile lifers, a community divided over oil drilling and earthquakes, and more will be released biweekly on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, RadioPublic and other podcast apps, and at pbs.org/frontlinedispatch. Jay Allison, the creator of The Moth Radio Hour, is senior editor and creative director.
The show is produced at FRONTLINE's headquarters at WGBH in Boston and will be distributed by PRX, a leading podcast creator and distributor working closely with WGBH on a range of podcast initiatives.
The FRONTLINE Dispatch is made possible by a generous gift from the Abrams Foundation Journalism Initiative.
"The Abrams Foundation is proud to support The FRONTLINE Dispatch," says Amy Abrams, President of the Abrams Foundation. "We value FRONTLINE's rigorous, balanced, and thoughtful investigative reporting and share FRONTLINE's commitment to expanding their reach through the use of cross platform and multi-platform approaches."
In addition to Aronson-Rath and Allison, The FRONTLINE Dispatch's editorial staff includes Andrew Metz (managing editor), Jamie York (senior producer), Sophie McKibben (series producer) and Lauren Ezell Kinlaw (series story editor).
"All of us on the audio side are fans of FRONTLINE's remarkable documentary films. It's a thrill to be bringing their important journalism together with great sonic storytelling," says Allison, one of public radio's most honored producers.
In the growing landscape of podcasts, The FRONTLINE Dispatch will emerge as a unique voice — devoting time and resources to undiscovered and under-covered stories, and telling those stories with authenticity, elegance and impact.
