CHARLOTTE, N.C., Jan. 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Piedmont Natural Gas (NYSE: PNY) today announced that it delivered a record volume of natural gas for a 24-hour period on January 7, 2014, to customers in the Company's three-state service area of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The record sendout of 2,414,986 dekatherms exceeded the previous winter season single-day record sendout of 1,857,018 dekatherms set on December 13, 2010 by 30 percent. Piedmont further noted that six of its top eight single-day sendouts have occurred this winter season since November 13, 2013.
Thomas E. Skains, Piedmont's Chairman, President, and CEO, commented on the record sendout, "As a result of last week's frigid temperatures across our entire three-state service area, Piedmont's pipeline distribution system experienced record customer demand for natural gas. In response, our employees and our system performed extremely well, delivering natural gas reliably and safely to our more than one million customers." Skains continued, "Our ability to provide safe and reliable natural gas service throughout this weather event is further indication of the value of our ongoing investments in our pipeline delivery system through our system expansion and pipeline integrity management programs."
