Friendship Place to Host a Walk on the National Mall to End Homelessness
WASHINGTON, Oct. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Friendship Place invites the community to Friendship Walks, a one mile walk around the National Mall to end homelessness on Sunday, November 2 from 10:30am to 12pm. The walk aims to raise funds for Friendship Place's programs as well as raise awareness on the issue of homelessness in the Washington, DC region.
The event, a first for Friendship Place, serves as a replacement of the former walks held by Fannie Mae's Help the Homeless program. Friendship Place is picking up the mantle and bringing back the annual walk on the National Mall, with the starting location between 12th and 14th streets, between Jefferson and Madison streets.
DJ EZ STREET of 93.9 WKYS is hosting this "family friendly" event, which will include signed autographs and pictures with NFL Alumni and other professional athletes, T-shirt decorating for the kids, music and much more. Members of the Friendship Place speaker's bureau will also briefly share stories of how Friendship Place helped them overcome homelessness. Event sponsors and partners include AT&T, Clark Construction, Lockheed Martin and TTR Sotheby's International Realty.
The walk's objective is to continue a focus on ending homelessness in the Washington, DC region. "Our goal is to bring together the greater Washington, DC community by partnering with one another to ensure everyone has a place that they can call home," Friendship Place's Development Associate and walk coordinator, Zachary Tobler said.
Attendees can register, sponsor or start a fundraising team by visiting www.FriendshipWalks.org. Registration is $30 for adults 25 and older, $10 for youths 24 and younger and free for children under six.
