Fried Frank Named a "Best Law Firm for Women" for Fifth Consecutive Time
NEW YORK, Nov. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP announced today that it has been recognized as one of the "Best Law Firms for Women" by Working Mother magazine in partnership with Flex-Time Lawyers, marking the fifth consecutive time the Firm has been named to the list. The survey identifies the law firms which best support female lawyers through family-friendly policies and business development initiatives that retain women and advance them into the leadership pipeline.
Based on a national survey developed by Working Mother magazine and Flex-Time Lawyers, the 2012 list takes into account a number of factors, including workforce profile; family-friendly benefits and policies; flexibility; leadership, compensation and advancement of women; and development and retention of women.
As one of only a handful of Am Law 100 firms chaired by a woman, Fried Frank scored highly in the category addressing women in leadership positions in particular. The Firm also received high marks for its commitment to developing, retaining and promoting female attorneys. Of Fried Frank's partnership class last year, half were women – a ratio that won the Firm acclaim in the feature profile article accompanying the survey results.
Valerie Ford Jacob, Fried Frank's Chairperson and head of the Firm's capital markets practice group, said, "Fried Frank is proud to be consistently recognized as a 'Best Law Firm for Women.' Our goal to dissolve the obstacles that traditionally hinder women's advancement in the workplace has long been a Firm commitment."
"High-achieving women are everywhere at this law firm, heading three of its practice groups, co-chairing four key committees and scoring half of all open partner slots in 2011," reports Working Mother in its analysis of the survey's results. The editorial notes that Fried Frank's percentage of women partners exceeds the 15% nationwide average, and lauds the Firm's Work-Life Balance subcommittee, "which not only analyzes the utilization and efficacy of its flextime, part-time, remote work and telecommuting arrangements, but also makes sure they are available to all."
Fried Frank is one of few law firms to be recognized for two consecutive years with a Gold Standard Certification from the Women in Law Empowerment Forum (WILEF) based on the career success of its female partners. In 2012, the Firm also earned Yale Law Women's Recognition of Superior Performance in two categories, Gender Equity in Partner Promotions and Gender Equitable Use of Parental Leave Policies.
Fried Frank will be honored for its distinction as one of the "Best Law Firms for Women" at an awards ceremony in New York City on December 5, 2012.
