Fried Frank Elects Seven New Partners
NEW YORK, March 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP announced today that it has elected seven lawyers to partner and promoted seven associates to special counsel, effective March 1, 2015.

The following lawyers were elected partners:
- William J. Breslin is a partner in the Corporate Department and the Asset Management Practice, resident in Washington, DC. Mr. Breslin's practice concentrates on derivatives, futures and commodities. He regularly offers his clients transactional and regulatory advice in connection with swaps, futures and other derivatives products. Mr. Breslin received his JD from the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law in 2005 and his BA from Providence College in 2000.
- Mark S. Hayek is a partner in the Corporate Department and the Capital Markets Practice, resident in New York. Mr. Hayek concentrates his practice on corporate finance transactions, including the representation of issuers, underwriters and selling security holders in domestic and international public and private debt (investment grade, unsecured and secured high yield debt) and equity (IPOs and secondary) offerings. He has a particular focus on the representation of private equity sponsors in connection with acquisition financings. He also represents borrowers and lenders in syndicated loan transactions. Mr. Hayek received his JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2006 and his BA from the University of Virginia in 2003.
- Laurinda Martins is a partner in the Real Estate Department, resident in New York. Ms. Martins concentrates her practice on commercial mortgage, mezzanine and construction financing on behalf of lenders and borrowers, as well as joint ventures, acquisitions and dispositions and loan restructures, workouts and UCC foreclosures. She received her JD, magna cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law in 2004, and she received her BA and BSBA, cum laude, from the University of Florida in 2001.
- Caroline Sandberg is a partner in the Corporate Department and the Finance Practice, resident in New York. Ms. Sandberg represents senior and mezzanine lenders, borrowers and private equity sponsors on a wide variety of financing transactions, including syndicated senior facilities, second lien facilities and mezzanine financings in connection with mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buy-outs, recapitalizations and debt restructurings. She received her LLM degrees from Uppsala University School of Law in 2002 and Columbia Law School in 2006, and she also received her BS in Business Administration and Economics from Stockholm University in 2004.
- Matthew V. Soran is a partner in the Corporate Department and the Mergers and Acquisitions and Private Equity Practice, resident in New York. Mr. Soran has significant experience in mergers and acquisitions, having represented private investment groups and public and private companies in mergers, stock and asset acquisitions and divestitures, carve-out transactions, joint ventures, recapitalizations, growth equity investments, venture investments, secondary sales of private equity limited partnership interests and other corporate and governance matters. He received his JD, cum laude, from Brooklyn Law School in 2005 and his BA, cum laude, from Tufts University in 1999.
- Jan Sysel is a partner in the Corporate Department and the Finance Practice, resident in New York. Mr. Sysel represents sponsors, borrowers, arrangers and lenders on a variety of financing transactions primarily in connection with fund formation, as well as leveraged acquisitions, spinoffs, recapitalizations and restructurings across a broad range of industries. He has extensive experience structuring, negotiating, documenting and executing complex financings, including syndicated senior facilities, mezzanine facilities and private debt placements. Mr. Sysel received his LLM from Columbia Law School in 2005, his JSD from Charles University Law School (Prague) in 2002 and his JD from Charles University Law School (Prague) in 1999.
- Michael J. Werner is a partner in the Real Estate Department, resident in New York. Mr. Werner's practice includes the representation of owners, developers, financial institutions and institutional investors in a range of commercial real estate transactions, concentrating on the acquisition and sale of office, development, multi-family residential and retail properties as well as commercial mortgage, mezzanine and construction financings, debt restructurings, joint ventures and commercial leasing. He received his JD, cum laude, from Fordham University School of Law in 2005 and his BA, cum laude, from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 2002.
