PLYMOUTH, Mich., April 20, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Cabin-air filters and filtration systems have become standard equipment in modern vehicles almost overnight.
From an installation rate of just 60 percent five years ago, cabin-air filters are now found on nearly 97 percent of the cars and light trucks sold in North America.
"Consumers have become more aware of air quality, and car makers have responded by making cabin-air filters standard equipment," notes Dave Lester, regional director of Automotive Filters-North America at Freudenberg Filtration Technologies.
Occupants of a vehicle without a cabin-air filter can be exposed to air pollution levels that are six times higher than if they were walking along the street. Some particulates can lead to serious long-term health problems, such as respiratory and cardiovascular diseases, and some have been linked to cancer.
Particulates such as pollen or ozone, can produce eye irritation or shortness of breath. Cleaner cabin air also helps ensure safer driving. Fewer dirt particles inside a car mean less chance of windows fogging-up, giving the driver a clearer view. Fresh, clean air contains more oxygen, improving concentration and driver reaction time. Reduced allergies cut sneezing, which can trim accident risk by 30 percent or more. A sneeze when cruising at 50 miles per hour, for example, leaves a driver's eyes closed for more than 100 feet.
In addition to being dangerous, reactions to pollen and ozone can spoil the driving experience: coughing spells, a runny nose and headaches are simply unpleasant. So, too, is the smell of car exhaust in the city or other unpleasant odors along either rural or urban roadways.
Freudenberg Filtration Technologies is the global brand leader in the field of automotive filtration, Lester points out. MicronAir® filters provide effective, reliable protection against dangerous pollutants and allergens to improve passenger health, reduce accidents, prolong vehicle-system service life and make driving a more pleasant experience.
Using a layer of activated carbon, micronAirR combi filters can improve passenger comfort by removing odors and reducing ozone by up to 99 percent. Polluted air can reduce the long-term performance of the vehicle's heating and air conditioning system, so a regular filter replacement can extend an A/C system's service life.
Freudenberg Filtration Technologies has been producing, micronAir® filters for all of the world's major automakers for more than 20 years.
