FreshGrade Releases Class-Wide Announcements Feature
New Function Further Establishes FreshGrade as the Definitive Education Tool
KELOWNA, British Columbia, June 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading education technology company, FreshGrade, has released a new feature that allows teachers to send class-wide announcements to both students and parents. The new feature allows teachers to remind parents and students of upcoming assignments and events, and works seamlessly and intuitively within FreshGrade's popular student digital portfolios.
Unlike other classroom communication apps, FreshGrade is much more than a reminder app. The core of FreshGrade's growing success is that the software is tapping into and solving a much larger problem – the need to support individual learners. FreshGrade offers a holistic digital student learning system that allows for real time engagement with teachers, students and parents.
"We know that students learn in different ways and at different paces, yet how we currently measure and report on their progress is structured in a way that suggests students are the same," says FreshGrade CEO, Lane Merrifield.
The FreshGrade system allows teachers to capture, document and communicate learning in a meaningful and personalized manner. It removes the subjectivity associated with traditional student assessments because, by documenting the captured learning in a digital portfolio, there is tangible proof of the learning journey.
With FreshGrade, the student is at the center of the learning, and through the supplementary student app, students are given access to view and contribute to their portfolios. Teachers have the ability to empower their students to have a voice in their learning. Students can document their own learning, make self-assessments, upload assignments and receive personalized feedback from their teachers and/or parents.
FreshGrade also offers a dedicated parent app, which allows parents to view and comment on all portfolio activity. A parent of two school-aged children himself, Merrifield explains that, "giving parents access to their child's portfolio provides them with meaningful information, sooner, and as a result parents are in a stronger position to partner with the teacher to support their child's learning."
FreshGrade was recently featured by Apple Education and is the technology behind the learning initiative that received the coveted 2015 ISTE Sylvia Charp award, which will be presented to Surrey School District at the annual ISTE conference in late June. The company is quickly cementing itself in classrooms across Canada, the US and Australia, as the accessible alternative to traditional report cards.
Teachers are able to use FreshGrade for free by signing up through the website or downloading the iOS App, which is available in the Apple App Store. The parent and student apps are available in iOS and Android formats.
