Frenzied, Magnetic, Intoxicating, and Messy ... Experience the Harvest at Wine Boot Camp®
SEBASTOPOL, Calif., June 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Wine Boot Camp®, the extreme insider experience for adventurous wine lovers, challenges recruits to dive into wine by rolling up their sleeves and plunging into winegrowing and winemaking during a one-day reconnaissance mission.
Affairs of the Vine will conduct a Sonoma County Harvest Wine Boot Camp® 2011 on Saturday, September 24, 2011. Wine lovers will work hands-on in the vineyards harvesting grapes at Pezzi King under the guidance of winemaker Christopher Barrett and the watchful eyes of owners Jim and Cynthia Rowe. The mission will continue with a fabulous cellar experience at Blue Rock Vineyard under the tutelage of owner Kenny Kahn and winemaker Nick Goldschmidt. Recruits will have the opportunity to blend a bottle of wine from the wonderful wines in barrel at Blue Rock Vineyard. Wine workshops and tastings of outstanding wines are an integral part of the program.
The 2011 Sonoma County Harvest Wine Boot Camp allows recruits to experience the excitement of the vineyard and the hard but rewarding work that it takes to produce wine. They'll be able to reach down and touch the soil, taste the sweetness of the grapes as they are being harvested, be a part of loading the grapes onto flatbeds and following them back to the winery. They'll help to sort the grapes, direct the grapes into the destemmer-crusher, smell the grapes fermenting in the winery, and barrel sample. And that's just the beginning of the day. Recruits will also enjoy an aromatic workshop, wine tasting, a cellar experience culminating in blending and bottling one's own wine, breakfast, lunch in the vineyard, and a sumptuous gourmet dinner. All of this is packed into an intensive 12-hour day.
"This will be the best Wine Boot Camp in 20 years!" Major Barbara Drady, Wine Boot Camp Director, states emphatically. "Wine Boot Camp has always provided an insider's view to winemaking, but this year, our Harvest Wine Boot Camp missions will be at two amazingly beautiful wineries that are not open to the public and until now have never been experienced as our recruits will."
Pezzi King in Dry Creek Valley will host the morning vineyard mission and Blue Rock Vineyard in Alexander Valley will host the cellar mission, dinner, and the graduation ceremony for recruits.
The Dry Creek Valley is unmistakably beautiful. Lush vineyards rise from the valley floor to the hills. The combination of climate, soil and exposure produces stellar wines recognized as some of the best in the world ... but Pezzi King is the jewel in the crown of this fabulous appellation. Wine Boot Camp is honored to include Pezzi King as its vineyard mission site.
Alexander Valley, world-famous for Cabernet Sauvignon, is the home of many well-known producers. Wine Boot Camp has discovered a small vineyard and winery that produces incredible wines on a breathtaking property. Blue Rock Vineyard is not open to the public so you must know someone to gain access. The wines and personalities of Blue Rock Vineyard should be on your bucket list. Wine Boot Camp recruits will be immersed in this fabulous experience.
"I'm very excited to be sharing these amazing properties with our Sonoma County Wine Boot Camp recruits," declares Drady.
Wine Boot Camp groups are small so that all of the recruits can work hands-on in the vineyard and the winery.
The cost of the one-day Wine Boot Camp adventure includes all workshops, educational materials, lunch in the vineyard, a gourmet dinner paired with wines, extensive wine tasting, a bottle of wine created by the recruit, transportation to all events, a Wine Boot Camp cap, and an "I Survived Wine Boot Camp" T-shirt. Enlistment is $600 per person plus tax. To register, contact Major Drady at 707-874 -1975 or [email protected].
