French Bulldog Prevails As Miami's Top Dog
Nationally, Labrador Retriever Remains America's Most Popular
NEW YORK, March 16, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- This past year, the French Bulldog held onto Miami's top spot in the American Kennel Club's (AKC®) 2020 ranking of the most popular AKC-recognized dog breeds in the U.S.
The French Bulldog was also recognized as the #1 pup in NYC and Atlanta.
The Bulldog made its way into the top five in 2020, kicking the Poodle down to number six. Miami's love for the Golden Retriever was also on full display this year, with the breed jumping up to #2 on the city's most popular list.
"On trend with the rest of the nation, the Frenchie held tightly to the hearts of the people of Miami," said AKC Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo. "The playful, friendly pup remained the city's most popular breed, as it claimed the #2 spot in the country."

The AKC also announced its nationwide rankings today at the AKC Museum of the Dog in NYC. The Labrador Retriever celebrates a milestone! The loveable Lab remains the number one most popular breed in the United States for the 30th year.
While the Lab holds firmly to the top spot, the French Bulldog has continued to skyrocket in popularity. The Frenchie landed at number two in 2020, knocking the German Shepherd Dog down to third. The German Shepherd Dog had been the second most popular dog breed since 2009.
