French Bulldog Is San Francisco's Most Popular Breed

NEW YORK, Feb. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- This year, the French Bulldog took San Francisco's top spot in the American Kennel Club's (AKC^®) 2015 ranking of the most popular AKC-recognized dog breeds in the U.S.

The Frenchie was also recognized as the #1 pup in New York City, Miami, and Honolulu.

In addition to the French Bulldog unseating the Labrador Retriever as San Francisco's most popular breed, its English cousin the Bulldog broke into the city's top 10.  The Bulldog rose five spots to number four.

"The French Bulldog's popularity is undeniable," said AKC Vice President Gina DiNardo.  "This playful little dog overtook the nationally beloved Labrador Retriever as San Francisco's top dog."

While the Lab is clearly America's dog, the French Bulldog is poised for a takeover.  The affectionate and playful breed continues to win the hearts of dog lovers everywhere, jumping three spots to number six in 2015.  The Frenchie has risen 32 spots over the past decade and shows no signs of stopping.
