French Bulldog Is NYC's Top Dog Breed

NEW YORK, March 28, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The French Bulldog took New York City's top spot once again in the American Kennel Club's (AKC^®) 2017 ranking of the most popular AKC-recognized dog breeds in the U.S.

The French Bulldog was also recognized as the #1 pup in Los Angeles and Honolulu.

Golden Retrievers made a return to the top five, knocking Poodles down to sixth place. Another big mover in New York City was the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, which jumped from 13^th to 7^th place in 2017.

"Always a trend-setter, New York City continues its love affair with the French Bulldog as the rest of the world catches on," said AKC Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo. "The Frenchie is a very adaptable breed, making it a great companion for city dwellers."

• Park Slope: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

• Tribeca: Havanese
• Upper East Side: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
• Upper West Side: French Bulldog
• Washington Heights: Great Dane
• Williamsburg: French Bulldog

The AKC also announced its nationwide rankings today in a press conference at its New York City headquarters. The intelligent, family friendly Labrador Retriever firmly holds on to the number one spot on the most popular list for a record-breaking 27^th consecutive year.

While the Labrador Retriever remains a constant at the top of the charts, the big mover and shaker in 2017 was the French Bulldog. The easygoing, playful, adaptable Frenchie not only jumped two spots to number four, it knocked the Beagle out of the top five for the first time since 1998.
