FreeWheel Expands to the United Kingdom
Adds Leading U.K. Media Company British Sky Broadcasting to Portfolio
SAN MATEO, Calif., April 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Video technology company FreeWheel today announced its expansion into the United Kingdom with the opening of a London office and the addition of a new customer to its portfolio: British Sky Broadcasting (Sky), the U.K.'s leading pay television provider. Sky will use FreeWheel's Monetization Rights Management® (MRM) product to serve video advertising across a number of its platforms and services.
Sky selected FreeWheel's MRM as its exclusive video ad management system based on the product's ability to forecast the amount of video ad inventory available in the future, as well as its video ad serving capabilities over a number of platforms and devices, including mobile.
"FreeWheel's technology and infrastructure offers not only the capabilities that our video advertising business requires today, but also other features that will help maintain our position in the future, such as its strength in mobile video ad serving and ability to manage multiple media platforms." said Tim Hussain, Head of Platform Development and Partnerships at Sky.
Doug Knopper, co-founder and co-CEO at FreeWheel added, "Robust video ad management infrastructure is critical as more and more consumers access media content through their mobile devices and as more of these devices hit the market. Sky invests heavily in its programming, and FreeWheel's technology empowers Sky to make the most of its content across the range of platforms and devices on which it has a presence."
FreeWheel has already been working internationally with a number of customers, including ESPN, Discovery International, Warner Music, and Diagonal View. Additionally, the company has systems integrations with several international partners, including: SmartClip, SpotXchange, Axel Springer, Burst Media UK, and Hi-media Group.
The first of Sky's divisions went live on FreeWheel's MRM in March 2011.
