CLEVELAND, Sept. 23, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- US demand for non-innerspring mattresses is projected to climb 4.9% per annum to $2.7 billion in 2020, outpacing the larger innerspring mattresses segment. Gains will represent the continued market shift from innerspring to non-innerspring mattress types.
These findings are featured in Sleep Products: United States, a report recently released by Freedonia Focus Reports, a division of The Freedonia Group.
Growth to Slow with Increasing Competition
Manufacturers of specialty mattresses will continue to attract consumers by emphasizing the performance advantages of foam mattresses, with a focus on the cost-benefit ratio of these products. In addition, bed-in-a-box products, which are often available at lower price points than traditional foam mattresses, will make these mattresses accessible to a broader customer base. Suppliers of ultra-high-end all-latex mattresses will continue to benefit from the positioning of their product as "natural". Meanwhile, interest in beds featuring adjustable firmness will spur sales growth for high-end air mattresses. Despite the generally positive outlook, segment growth will slow from rates seen earlier in the historical period as competition from innerspring mattresses – reinvigorated by the emergence of hybrid models – restrains growth.
The full report, Sleep Products: United States, forecasts US sleep product demand and shipments in US dollars at the manufacturers' level to 2020. Total demand and shipments are segmented by product type in terms of:
- innerspring mattresses
- non-innerspring mattresses
- foundations
- sleep system ensembles.
Bed furnishings (eg, bedspreads, sheets, and pillows) and furniture (eg, bed frames, bed slats, and headboards) are excluded from the scope of this report. In addition, inflatable mattresses and sleeping bags are not included in this report. Re-exports of sleep products are excluded from demand and trade figures.
To illustrate historical trends, total demand, total shipments, the various segments, and trade flows are provided in annual series from 2005 to 2015.
