Helps transit agency produce "Clean Air Dividends" every day by utilizing clean burning CNG buses
HOUSTON, April 21, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The results are in for Houston METRO's greener CNG Fleet. METRO rolled out 50 new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses in January 2016 in partnership with Freedom CNG, a Houston-based CNG fuel provider and the Houston-Galveston Area Council in a collective effort to promote clean air initiatives in the city.
Since inception, METRO CNG buses have logged in the aggregate over 4.5 million miles on the streets of Houston, displacing over 1 million gallons of diesel fuel!
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, CNG fueled buses reduce local carbon dioxide emissions by 20%, carbon monoxide emissions by 70% and nitrogen oxide emissions by 75% - 95%. These emission reductions, generated by the replacement of old diesel buses with 50 new CNG buses, have improved air quality in Houston.
METRO uses locally produced CNG for a portion of its transit fleet, and if Texas were a country, according to the Energy Information Administration, it would be the third largest natural gas producing country in the world! This means local fuel, local jobs and local air quality improvement!
Please show your support for Houston's environment – Ride METRO on Earth Day!
