Sedation dentists, their staff, and their patients are invited to participate in the one-hour briefing, that will feature noted experts discussing newly proposed revisions to the American Dental Association's "Guidelines for the Use of Sedation and General Anesthesia by Dentists."
If the guidelines, as proposed, are adopted by the ADA's House of Delegates at the group's annual meeting in November 2015, it will have a dramatic impact on the dental profession, as well as important repercussions for dental patients nationwide, according to TEAM 1500.
Among the proposed changes, the new ADA proposals will give rise to an unprecedented two-caste professional standing, featuring: Second-Class dentists who must abide by the strict new sedation guidelines; and First-Class dentists who will be "grandfathered" in, giving them a competitive market advantage and allowing them to avoid the costly and time-consuming process of complying with the revised guidelines.
Moreover, according to TEAM 1500, the market value of many existing sedation dentistry practices could be slashed anywhere from 10% to 50%, as the pool of potential buyers implodes.
If the proposed ADA guidelines are adopted and then enacted by state dental regulators, many dental patients will find that the cost of standard oral health care will rise precipitously while shortages of dentists qualified to provide sedation care will result in significantly longer wait times to obtain a dental appointment.
The free teleconference will feature a panel of experts including regulatory attorney John Bitting, a leading authority on dental sedation; and Dr. Michael D. Silverman, co-founder of DOCS Education and a globally recognized lecturer, educator, author, and patient right's advocate.
Dean Rotbart, a prize-winning investigative journalist and director of TEAM 1500, will serve as moderator of the teleconference.
