Help set a new Guinness World Record at the SDCCU Super Shred Event
SAN DIEGO, July 28, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), San Diego's largest locally-owned financial institution, is preparing to set a new Guinness World Record® at the upcoming SDCCU Super Shred Event. The public is invited to bring an unlimited amount of documents to be shredded for free at the event from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday, July 30, at Qualcomm® Stadium in the northeast parking lot, located at 9449 Friars Road, San Diego.
SDCCU is planning to shred the Guinness World Record for the most paper collected in 24 hours. In July 2015, SDCCU organized the effort to collect and shred over 584,350 pounds of paper, setting a third Guinness World Record for the most paper collected in 24 hours at a single location. During the event, 70 trucks were used to collect and shred the paper. This year, SDCCU is aiming to collect and shred more than 600,000 pounds of paper!
"SDCCU is happy to provide this free service to the community, especially with a greater prevalence of fraud and identity theft in recent years. We encourage everyone, including SDCCU customers, families, friends and members of the public, to bring their old personal documents for shredding at the SDCCU Super Shred Event and, once again, put San Diego on the map with a new world record," said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Halleck.
The public is invited to bring all of their old documents to Qualcomm Stadium this Saturday, July 30. Shred-It®, the world's leading document destruction and recycling company, will be onsite to shred documents at no charge. Paper documents should be removed from binders prior to shredding; however, staples and paperclips are okay to be shredded. The first 1,000 guests who take advantage of the SDCCU Super Shred Event will receive a free gift. Plus, donations will be accepted for SDCCU Stuff the Bus, a program launched in partnership with the San Diego County Office of Education and iHeartMedia radio stations, Star 941, Channel 933, JAM'n 95.7 and KOGO AM 600 benefiting the 23,000 plus homeless students in San Diego.
SDCCU began hosting its free Shred Day events in 2007 and has since collected, shredded and recycled more than 1,800,000 pounds of documents at no charge, saving over 15,500 trees (every 120 pounds shredded represents one saved tree).
