Free Science Day - Flash Mob Science, Haunted Hallows & Science Shuttle Arrive At Chabot Space & Science Center
OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Saturday, October 27, 2012, from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m., Chabot Space & Science Center will be the East Bay location for the Bay Area Science Festival. Sponsored by Chevron, and organized by the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). Members of the public are invited to experience Chabot's "Flash Mob Science" and "Haunted Hallows" activities with free admission to Chabot from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. In addition, Chevron will provide a science shuttle to the Center departing from Fruitvale BART station periodically, free of charge.
In addition to enjoying free admission to the Center, guests will have access to Chabot's interactive exhibits, hands-on demonstrations and Planetarium shows. Residents of the Bay Area can hop on board the free science shuttle departing and returning to the Fruitvale BART station between noon and 6 p.m. every 15 minutes. An Ambassador of Science aboard each shuttle will entertain and delight families on the way to Chabot.
Flash Mob Science will provide a guided hands-on experiment themed for energy, light, sound, gravity forces and motion which will inspire children of all ages with the power of possibility each hour from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Stations include Puff Rockets, Rollback Can, Glove-a-Phone and Colors of Light spectroscope. Flash Mob activity kits are available on a first come, first served basis, while supplies last.
From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., visitors are invited to explore the dark side of Chabot with a night of spooky, ghoulish fun. Play in the Potions Lab, Electric Zone, The Laser Maze and The Haunted House. Adding to the thrill factor, for a fee of $10, visitors may add a Night Hike in Chabot's Frightening Forest. These spooky and fun guided hikes depart the Center at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. As space is limited, advance reservations are recommended for this activity and can be made by calling the Box office at (510) 336-7373.
Chabot's Free Science Day is a part of the second annual Bay Area Science Festival, which provides a wide range of science & technology activities at a variety of locations throughout the Bay Area from October 25-November 3, 2012.
