Free, Epic Philly Walking Tour On Sat, Sept. 28

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The 4^th Annual Great River to River, Vine to Pine, Rain or Shine Walking Tour of Philadelphia hits the pavement on Saturday, September 28.  This free guided walking tour is conducted by the Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides (APT) annually as a celebration of Philadelphia's fascinating visitor sites.  It also gives APT an occasion to show off its well-informed certified professional guides.

Past tours have attracted hundreds of local residents, as well as tourists from as far away as Australia and Japan.  Even other tour guides from New York and Washington D.C. have traveled to Philadelphia to enjoy the city's longest continuous tour.

Where & When to Catch the Tour

The walking tour is divided into four consecutive 2 ½ hour stages: 

• Stage One (8 a.m.) covers Old City Philadelphia.  It kicks off from the lobby of the National Constitution Center, 525 Arch Street.
• Stage Two (11:00 a.m.) winds through Society Hill.  It sets out from the Bourse Building, 111 S. Independence Mall East, on 5^th Street near Ludlow Street.
• Stage Three (2 p.m.) covers the 19^th century neighborhood around East Market Street. It begins at the Independence Visitor Center, 6^th and Market Streets.
• Stage Four (5 p.m.) heads along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and nearby sites on its way to the Fairmount Waterworks.  It  launches from the courtyard of Philadelphia City Hall, at the intersection of Broad and Market Streets

How To

Participants are free to walk the tour from 8 am to its 8 pm finish, or join in any segment of the tour. There are opportunities for refreshments and rest rooms at each staging area.
