Free Customizable Smartphone App Helps Schools Deliver Important Information to Students and Parents
806 Technologies Introduces iSchoolBox, a free app created to increase parental involvement and communication with child's school
DALLAS, April 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- If your child doesn't have a smartphone, you're probably well aware that "all their friends do." Children are using smartphones for everything from texting to playing online games, to updating social media sites — and schools are picking up on the trend, with custom smartphone apps designed to share important information with parents and students. As more families switch to services like Netflix and satellite radio, information that was once communicated through network television and radio stations, such as school closings and snow days, may not make it home to parents. Smartphones apps are a useful way for schools to make this information available, but development can be expensive. To address this issue, 806 Technologies, a Dallas-based educational software developer, created iSchoolBox, a customizable school or campus app available at no charge to parents and kids.
"We created the app in order to help schools transition to the mobile app world without spending an arm and a leg," says 806 Technologies Founder Ross Laughter. "This is all about increasing parent involvement and communication. It's harder to communicate with parents now because you can't use TV or radio. But most Americans 'can't live' without their cell phones. So that makes mobile apps a smart way to help them keep in touch with schools."
iSchoolBox can be adapted by school administrators to include school-specific information, colors, logos and branding, with little or no programming knowledge. Students and parents can then search for their school when they download iSchoolBox from the App Store or Google Play. Parents are using the app to access school and sports schedules, view lunch menus, purchase lunch tickets, and quickly get in touch with teachers, coaches, and administrators with one-touch dialing and E-mailing. According to current reviews on the App Store, parents and administrators are finding iSchoolBox useful.
"Not everyone checks a school's website for info about schedules, special events, etc.," notes one reviewer. "For parents, [this means] no more worries about missing special events because the information didn't make it home in a student's backpack…for principals, [the app provides] a quick and easy way to communicate."
About iSchoolBox: iSchoolBox was created by 806 Technologies, Inc. to help schools and campuses create their own mobile websites without incurring programming fees. This app is free to schools, students and parents. Administrators may visit ischoolbox.com to create an account and build a free mobile site.
