FRC Action Urges Passage of Legislation Banning Sex-Selection Abortions

WASHINGTON, May 29, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Wednesday, the House of Representatives will vote on the Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act (PRENDA) of 2012 which will restrict abortions motivated by sex discrimination.

Tom McClusky, Senior Vice President for Family Research Council Action (FRC Action), had the following to say:

"The fact that many abortions occur out of discrimination based on sex-selection, especially against girls, is a tragedy that U.S. Rep. Trent Frank's legislation would address. In India and China abortion of unborn girls had led to devastating gender imbalances and discrimination against women in all areas of society.

"Sadly, the tragedy of sex selection abortions is not confined to foreign countries but is also taking place in the United States. Undercover video released today by Live Action shows Planned Parenthood's willingness to facilitate a sex-selection abortion.

"The vast majority of Americans agree that abortions motivated by sex discrimination should be stopped. We have seen sex-selection abortion in the United States and need to address this discrimination as soon as possible. We fully support PRENDA and applaud the House Leadership for scheduling a vote on this important bill."
