Frankfurt Airport and Fraport's International Airport Portfolio Report Ongoing Traffic Growth - Newly Acquired Ljubljana Airport Fully Consolidated for the First Time
FRA/gk-rap - In the reporting month of October 2014, Frankfurt Airport (FRA) reported ongoing traffic growth. Despite some 1,100 strike-related flight cancellations which affected about 137,500 passengers, passenger numbers at FRA rose by 1.4 percent to 5.5 million. Without the strike by the pilots' union, Frankfurt Airport would have seen underlying passenger growth of approximately four percent in October 2014.
FRA's cargo throughput (airfreight + airmail) increased by 1.1 percent to 188,062 metric tons year-on-year. Accumulated MTOWs (maximum takeoff weights) also rose, climbing by 1.6 percent to about 2.6 million metric tons. Aircraft movements declined by 1.5 percent to 41,947 takeoffs and landings. Without the strike-related flight cancellations, the number of aircraft movements at FRA would have slightly exceeded the previous year's level.
Airports in the Fraport Group's international portfolio also reported growth in October 2014. Fully consolidated for the first time, newly acquired Ljubljana Airport (LJU) in the capital city of Slovenia served 117,491 passengers and achieved growth of 6.7 percent compared to the same month last year. In Peru, Lima Airport (LIM) welcomed almost 1.4 million passengers, up 4.5 percent year-on-year. Bulgaria's Twinstar airports of Varna (VAR) and Burgas (BOJ) had a combined total of 78,078 passengers - representing growth of 2.6 percent. Antalya Airport (AYT) on the Turkish Riviera experienced a 4.8 percent drop in traffic to about 2.8 million passengers. With more than 1.1 million passengers, St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Airport (LED) in Russia saw traffic rise by 5.6 percent year-on-year. In Germany, Hanover Airport (HAJ) also grew by 5.6 percent to 571,082 passengers. Xi'an Airport (XIY) in China achieved double-digit growth of 13.7 percent with some 2.7 million passengers.
