Franklin County, Illinois farmland set for upcoming auction
BENTON, Ill., July 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Approximately 765 acres of southern Illinois land – most of it tillable cropland – will be offered at auction Monday, Aug. 25, with Murray Wise Associates marketing the property and managing the auction. The property will sell in 13 tracts, including one tract with a four-bedroom home.
"This auction features some of the better farmland in Franklin County, and nine of the 13 tracts – including the majority of the tillable land – are contiguous," said Joe Bubon, executive vice president of the auction company. "Excluding the 12-acre tract with the home, these tracts range from 20 acres to 122 acres. This provides a great deal of flexibility for farmers as well as potential investors. If someone needs 20, 40 or 100 acres to integrate into existing operations, he can bid on those, and our bidding method places such bidders on an equal footing with those who might be seeking all of the land," he said.
Bubon also noted that the land has been held by the same family for decades. "This kind of land doesn't come on the market often, so this is truly a once-in-a-generation event," he said.
Out of the full 765 acres, 715 acres are estimated tillable by the U.S. Farm Service Agency.
The auction will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at Benton Civic Center in Benton. Murray Wise Associates personnel will be available to accommodate inspections and provide detailed information from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4, and Thursday, Aug. 7.
