Fox NFL Sunday and NASCAR Line Up to Honor Troops at Congressional Gala

The 6th Annual Armed Forces Foundation Congressional Gala will be held March 3, 2010.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Wednesday, March 3, 2010, leaders from the military, corporate and political sectors will convene at the Ronald Reagan Building for one of Capitol Hill's most highly anticipated events, the 6th Annual Armed Forces Foundation Congressional Gala.  The Gala, which honors the sacrifices made by American troops and their families, will honor NASCAR and Aaron's Inc. for their unprecedented work with the military community.

Other Special Honorees include the cast of Fox NFL Sunday.  On November 8, 2009, the crew flew to Afghanistan to give their weekly pregame show from Bagram Air Base.  Through their work, they exemplified the mission of the Armed Forces Foundation, improving the morale of American service members directly in harm's way.  Also in attendance will be Lesa France Kennedy, a member of the Board of Directors for NASCAR.  This year, NASCAR has donated thousands of tickets to different races to be given to wounded veterans.

In addition to honoring America's brave men and women in uniform, the Armed Forces Foundation also will recognize individuals dedicated to promoting the welfare of the military community.  The distinguished recipient of the Humanitarian of the Year is Sergeant Major of the Army Kenneth Preston.  Through his leadership position, SMA Preston exhibited compassion and benevolence toward service members and their families.  

Over 100 patients from the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD and Walter Reed Army Hospital in D.C., and their families, will be among the event's patrons.  Guests will be greeted with a reception at 6:30 p.m., followed immediately by dinner.  In addition, the Congressional Gala's silent and live auction will offer several items, including a week vacation to Indian Beach, NC and autographed sports memorabilia.  This year, keeping with the Armed Forces Foundation's new motto, "Families Serve Too," the silent auction will feature "Fund a Family Tables," allowing patrons of the gala to bid on household items that will be donated to military families.  Some of these items include diapers, baby formula, and utility bills that will be directly donated to military families.
