FOX News Channel Business Journalist Stuart Varney to Keynote CSCMP's Annual Conference
Tuesday's General Session Features Chiquita Brands International CEO
LOMBARD, Ill., Sept. 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- FOX News Channel business and financial journalist Stuart Varney will be the opening general session speaker at the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals' (CSCMP) 2011 Annual Global Conference, October 2-5, 2011, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His presentation is titled, Plain Talk on the Global Economy.
"We are excited to have Stuart Varney as our keynote speaker," said Rick Blasgen, CSCMP president and chief executive officer. "As one of the most well-known business news journalists in the world, he will offer a unique perspective on the rapidly shifting domestic and global economic trends, as well as their implications for business. His presentation will explore the current financial situation and what it means to supply chain management professionals and their organizations, keeping us ahead of the headlines."
Tuesday's general session will feature Fernando Aguirre, chairman and chief executive officer of Chiquita Brands International, Inc., whose presentation will focus on Supply Chain Journeys of an Undercover Boss.
Aguirre became the first Hispanic CEO to participate in the CBS hit reality television series, Undercover Boss. During his journey undercover, he had the chance to see Chiquita's international supply chain in action first hand. From his work at the Port of Wilmington in Delaware to his harvesting experience in the fields of Salinas, California, he experienced the unique challenges that his supply chain employees face each day. As a result of this experience, he took action to recognize the company's unsung heroes by implementing new programs that boosted productivity and efficiency. He also empowered frontline workers to connect their daily activities to Chiquita's vision of improving world nutrition.
CSCMP's Annual Global Conference is the largest of its kind for the supply chain management profession, according to Blasgen, and will put an intense focus on innovative solutions that attendees can take back to their companies and use. "We know that supply chain managers are facing a whole new set of challenges today, so we've designed and assembled solutions that can be used every day to improve their supply chains' performance," he said. The event will host nearly 3,500 practitioners, educators, and thought leaders from around the world. Over 100 educational sessions are planned.
