Four More Patents Granted to Evolucia, Inc.
Intellectual Properties Further Protect Evolucia's Award Winning Product Lines
SARASOTA, Fla., Nov. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Evolucia, Inc. (OTCBB & OTCQB: ILED) announces today that it recently received notification from the United States Patent and Trademark Office that four more of the company's LED (light emitting diode) lighting patents have been granted. These newly awarded patents provide Evolucia with important advantages and legal protections for its award winning LED lighting product lines until 2032.
"Since the company was founded in 2005, we have allocated a substantial amount of capital to the research, development and patent protection of our LED product lines. These allocations were critical to the long term viability and protection of our product development investments and important to securing a competitive advantage for our company in the rapidly growing LED marketplace," said Mel Interiano, CEO of Evolucia, Inc.
A description of each of the recently granted patents follows:
(1) System for retrofitting an existing light fixture with an LED luminaire
United States Patent 8,262,258
September 11, 2012
This utility patent protects a system for retrofitting LEDs into traditional and classically-styled post-top streetlights. Its primary unique feature is that it directs the heat normally generated by the LEDs into the air outside the streetlamp, rather than heating the air inside. Numerous designs by competitors have this heat trapped inside the post-top's decorative globe, potentially reducing their LEDs' lifetime. This patent substantially differentiates Evolucia's post-top offerings.
(2) Street light retrofit assembly
United States Patent D 645,604
September 20, 2011
This design patent protects the aesthetics of our Aimed Optics™ cobra head. By patenting the design of the fixture, protection is provided against easy duplication and reproduction.
(3) Light unit with internal power failure detection
United States Patent 8,299,712
October 30, 2012
This utility patent protects an LED light bulb with battery back-up with power-failure sensing. This battery-backed LED light bulb would provide emergency backup lighting in the event of a power failure, much like the Northeast United States has endured due to Hurricane Sandy. The unique LED controls will determine whether it is intended to be "on" or "off" during a power loss by sensing the position of the wall switch, even in the absence of power.
(4) Light Unit with Heat Induction Sink
United States Patent 8,304,970
November 6, 2012
This utility patent protects a self-cooling LED architectural down-light. This high-powered LED light design provides enhanced cooling to a recessed can form-factor by using natural convection to circulate air through the LEDs' heat sink. Most architectural downlights position their heat sinks inside of an existing recessed can structure or into the space above the ceiling where it's likely much hotter, thereby reducing operational lifetime of the LEDs. The Evolucia design steers clear of the higher temperature ceiling cavity and draws cooler air from the room being lit. This design has the capability of providing enhanced LED cooling, and therefore longer lifetimes at higher wattages. In addition, this self-cooling design can be applied to luminaires with other form-factors.
Evolucia will continue to grant "pay-to-play" licenses to its growing patent catalog, and has retained experienced industry experts to coordinate its licensing and compliance efforts. The company is currently negotiating licensing rights with other lighting companies and expects to grant additional licenses in the future.
"Evolucia is an industry pioneer in the LED fixtures and lighting controls markets, and I expect that our portfolio of intellectual properties will continue to grow over the next 24 months, both organically and through acquisition," added Interiano.
