Four Massachusetts funders are supporting scholarships that will be of immediate and direct benefit to students with financial need who are studying at Cambridge College. The Dorothy and Jonathan Rintels Foundation, the Frederick Weber Charities Corporation, the Bessie Pappas Charitable Foundation, and the Sheila Gamble Fund of the Cambridge Community Foundation are providing critical support for students who are studying across a range of programs.
Approximately 70% of students attending Cambridge College receive financial aid. According to Director of Financial Aid, Frank Lauder, "Scholarships are such an important form of support for our students. We are so grateful for donors who invest in lightening the financial burden so many of our students face as they seek to pursue their education."
For Norma Rodriquez Green, who coordinates the Medical Interpreter Training Program, "The Bessie Pappas Foundation's and Sheila Gamble Fund's investments in our interpreter training program not only support the students, but also the patients with limited English proficiency who they will go on to serve after they earn their medical interpreter certificates."
According to Executive Director of the Cambridge Community Foundation (CCF), Robert Hurlbut, "Supporting Cambridge College's Medical Interpreter Program is truly a win-win grant in the eyes of CCF. Area hospitals have a great need for medical interpreters and these jobs are particularly attractive to immigrant parents who have raised their children and are looking for a worthy profession. CCF is very pleased to produce grants that help such families and our hospitals."
