Four Francophone Bay Area Schools Welcome International Soccer Tournament
SAN FRANCISCO, June 21, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- French American International School, International School of the Peninsula, Lycee Francais La Perouse and Ecole Bilingue de Berkeley are hosting a soccer tournament of francophone schools from around the world. The competition, which features 14 teams from five countries—Kenya, Morocco, Mexico, Canada and the United States—was kicked off yesterday at the French American International School gymnasium. Flags in hand, 5th- and 6th-grade students paraded into the gym and sang their team chants before several hundred spectators. The ceremony featured remarks by Ray Hinz and Edouard Mayoral, Lower School Principal and Assistant Head of School at French American International, respectively; Marc Cauet, Education Advisor of the AEFE (network of French schools abroad); and by Romain Serman, French Consul General of San Francisco.
Three days of friendly competition begin today at Crocker Amazon Park in San Francisco, and continue tomorrow at Stanford University. On Thursday, June 23, all players, united by their love of French and the beautiful game, will walk together across the Golden Gate Bridge. Thereafter finalists will play their last founds at Red Hill Community Park in Marin. For full details go to http://www.tournoidesameriques.lfk.fr/
