Four Finalists Selected In Lon Smith Roofing's Free Roof Give-Away

AUSTIN, Texas, June 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Lon Smith Roofing today announced four finalists have been selected in its 1^st annual No Roof Left Behind ^TM community program in Austin. The program will award a free roof to the winner who will be chosen by the general public.  Here are the four finalists:

• Alfred Brown of Austin, nominated by Deborah Schagen:
  "Alfred is an 83 year old man with a fixed income of under $12,000 a year, just trying to live out the rest of his years in the home in which he raised his family. He is desperately hoping an organization can help him get a better roof."

• Dan Sturgell of Belton, nominated by Patrick Scoggins:
  "In 2008, while The Sturgell Family was stationed in CA, their home in Belton, TX received heavy hail/wind damage.  A contractor submitted an invoice to customer stating the work was completed and the customers paid in full.  Now in 2014 they received damage from March storm only to have their insurance company deny the claim due to the roof NOT being replaced in 2008.  All these years the Sturgells' thought they had a new roof over their heads only to find out the contractor from 2008 completely scammed them!  Now they have a 20+ year old, leaking roof with no help from the insurance company."

• Juan & Aurora Zavala of Austin, nominated by Carlos Chavez:
  "This family is so self-less and always willing to help others. Being that they live in an area in central Austin that is in high development, property taxes are at their highest. Along with the higher cost of living, it is difficult for them to simply make ends meet so they cannot afford to repair the roof."

• Edward Saxton  of Killeen, nominated by Karen Clary:
  "Edward is a 59 year old retired veteran that served 10 years in the army. He has worked for 26 years as a line operator for Pactiv Corporation in Temple.  When Edward is not working, he selflessly gives his time to various charity organizations such as Toys for Tots and Patriot Guard.  In the Patriot Guard, he and other motorcyclists form flag lines and escort services for processions of military and first responders. Being a 2 time survivor of breast cancer, his wife, Donna has many health issues.  She suffers from lupus and has had 3 heart attacks.  Because of a broken hip and ankle, Donna is not very mobile and has to use a walker.  Their home is in total disrepair.  The roof damage caused structural damage to the house.  It also contributes to Donna's health problems.  This couple not only deserves a new roof but needs it."

One of these community members will receive a free roof – valued between $6,000 and $12,000 – from Lon Smith Roofing. The public is invited and encouraged to read the finalists' stories and vote for their favorite at noroofleftbehind.com.
