Foundation Receives Funding to Help Prevent Child Sexual Abuse
HARRISBURG, Pa., April 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Vision of Hope along with the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape (PCAR) and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) are pleased to announce Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians Foundation as the recipient of the 2010 Vision of Hope funds. The award amount of $51,000 will assist the Foundation in developing an educational program designed specifically for practicing physicians and their providers.
The multi-method program aims to improve the knowledge and medical practice of physicians to assist them in ultimately identifying victims of child sexual abuse. Through live lectures, workshops and accompanying webcasts, the Foundation hopes to assist child victims of sexual assault through the education of primary care providers.
"The Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians Foundation has created a program that will bring the message of the Vision of Hope to a new audience," said PCAR Executive Director Delilah Rumburg. "With the Foundation, we are working with medical professionals to protect, and restore, the hopes and dreams of our children."
The Vision of Hope, launched in July 2005, is a campaign of PCAR and the NSVRC aimed at protecting our children from the devastation of sexual abuse. Funding is provided each year to programs aimed at one of three critical child abuse program areas: prevention, protection and intervention.
PCAR, established in 1975, serves as the oldest anti-sexual violence coalition in the country. The NSVRC, founded by PCAR in 2000, is the nation's principle source of information regarding all aspects of sexual violence.
