Foster Care Counts Marks 11 Years of Celebrating Foster Parenting at Foster Families Day at The Getty Center, Saturday, May 11
The community comes together on Mother's Day weekend to show appreciation to hundreds of Los Angeles foster parents and children
LOS ANGELES, May 2, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Foster Care Counts, the non-profit organization founded by Jeanne Pritzker that's dedicated to raising awareness and serving the needs of foster youth and families in Los Angeles, will host Foster Families Day (formerly known as Foster Mother's Day) on Saturday, May 11 at The Getty Center in Brentwood. Together with numerous community-based organizations that support Los Angeles' foster care system, Foster Care Counts will host over 1,500 foster youth and families at a celebration designed to give back to foster parents who dedicate their lives to helping children.
The event, to be held for the first time at the Getty, will offer a relaxing day of arts workshops, museum tours, entertainment, brunch, and gifts. Foster Families Day is supported by local businesses, organizations, and foundations as well as hundreds of dedicated volunteers.
"We consider Mother's Day a perfect time to honor and show our respect for the many foster parents who give selflessly of themselves every day," said Jeanne Pritzker, founder of Foster Care Counts. "We all share responsibility for children in foster care, and Foster Families Day allows us to show our appreciation while bringing the community together in support of foster families."
"This event is a wonderful opportunity to honor our foster families who open their hearts to provide a safe, stable and loving home for our children," said Bobby Cagle, Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. "The Department is grateful for the ongoing partnership and support of Jeanne Pritzker's Foster Care Counts which continues to host remarkable events for our children and families demonstrating the true spirit of community."
As Mother's Day recognizes the hard work of moms in all households, Foster Families Day acknowledges that children thrive in families. Foster Care Counts believes it is important to celebrate those parents – foster moms and dads - who are helping to raise children who need alternative living situations.
Among the activities planned are an origami garden, entertainment by performers, musicians and DJs, and guided tours of the Getty Museum, and special family portrait keepsakes. Gifts will be provided by Paul Mitchell®,, Project Glimmer, Paramount Pictures, and The Book Foundation. VoluntEars from The Walt Disney Company will take part in the day. Brunch will be served to all guests and volunteers.
