Forum on Public Corruption at Stroock & Stroock & Lavan: Are Politicians More Vulnerable Today?
NEW YORK, June 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Stroock & Stroock & Lavan hosted a panel of distinguished, high-level prosecutors today in a forum, "Public Corruption: Are Politicians More Vulnerable Today?"
Participants included Daniel Alonso, Chief Assistant District Attorney for Manhattan and former head of the criminal division for the Eastern District of New York; Omar Ashmawy, Staff Director and Chief Counsel, Office of Congressional Ethics for the United States House of Representatives; Mitra Hormozi, Chair of the New York State Commission on Public Integrity; New York Times and NY1 reporter Sam Roberts; and Stroock partner and former federal and state prosecutor Joel Cohen.
The event was moderated by election lawyer and Stroock attorney Jerry H. Goldfeder and held in New York at Stroock, a national law firm with offices also in Los Angeles and Miami.
"Today's panel provided great insight into the nature of ethics and morals in public service; the role of prosecutors and investigations – when and why they happen; whether public officials are more vulnerable in today's 24/7 media coverage; and how the public is affected by these issues," said Mr. Goldfeder.
The event was the third in a series hosted by Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP. The first two featured one-on-one questions and answers with four-term New York State Attorney General and Stroock partner Robert Abrams, with newly elected New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman on March 16, then with New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli on May 12. Mr. Abrams will moderate a fall forum on the "Future of New York City".
The event was sponsored by Stroock's Government Relations group, which is comprised of former prosecutors, judges, and government agency officials. The practice is led by Mr. Abrams, who also served as President of the National Association of Attorneys General, Executive Chair of New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's Transition Committee and honorary Co-Chair of Attorney General Schneiderman's Transition Committee.
