SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Fortune Data Centers is opening its Oregon data center with the news that it is expected to achieve a half million dollar award from Energy Trust of Oregon. The data center delivers one of the highest levels of efficiency, with 99% efficient uninterrupted power supply (UPS) and a power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.16 in full economization mode as verified in a Level 5 commissioning process.

Fortune earned this incentive for energy efficiency from Energy Trust based on three main design elements: 99% efficient UPS, full water side economization and 100% aisle containment. In addition, Oregon's mild climate will enable the data center to use natural cooling methods to run the facility at least 30 percent of the year.
"Like other Fortune facilities, the Oregon data center benefits from state-of-the-art energy efficiency and control—including 100% aisle containment, as well as the ability to take advantage of Oregon's clean and inexpensive power," said John Sheputis, CEO of Fortune Data Centers. "The commissioning data was better than expected, demonstrating an unprecedented level of efficiency for a wholesale facility."
Based on a technical review of the data center, Fortune expects its Oregon facility to save more than 48 million kilowatt hours and reduce carbon emissions by 43 million pounds over the next 10 years. This is the equivalent of 2.6 million trees being planted over the next 10 years.
According to Energy Trust Business Sector Lead Oliver Kesting, "Fortune is doing all the right things. The savings potential for new data centers is significant and Fortune has explored all possibilities to be the most efficient they can be. We had a great working relationship and are looking forward to seeing these savings in action."
Sheputis added, "We are very proud of the entire team. In addition to building a great facility, we also continued our unmatched safety record. To date, Fortune has completed 300,000 construction hours without a day lost due to work injury."
In 2011, Fortune began to work with Energy Trust, an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to helping utility customers benefit from saving energy and tapping renewable resources. Their work helps keep energy costs as low as possible, creates jobs and buildings a sustainable energy future.
