FORTUNE's New Podcast, Leadership Next, Examines the Impact of the Evolving Role of Today's CEO on Society
FORTUNE CEO Alan Murray Hosts
NEW YORK, March 17, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, FORTUNE Media has published the inaugural episodes of its new podcast, Leadership Next, hosted by FORTUNE's CEO, veteran journalist Alan Murray. Sponsored by Deloitte, Leadership Next examines the evolving role of today's CEO and what that evolution means for the future of business, as they are increasingly called upon to do more than turn a profit, but to also do well by their employees, communities, and the planet.
In each episode, Murray speaks with the CEO of one of the world's biggest companies about this shift in focus, and how it's redefining the relationship between business and society. He asks for insight into what they're doing, and examines the impact their actions are having on small and large scales. Specialists from relevant fields and FORTUNE reporters also join to discuss the most pressing issues of our time.
The first two episodes of Leadership Next are available now. In the first, Murray sits down with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, author Colin Mayer, and FORTUNE's own Andrew Nusca to discuss why Nadella believes Microsoft must have a social purpose, and how failing to fulfill that purpose may put capitalism in danger. In the second, Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson discusses the company's recently-announced plans to cut carbon emissions, waste, and water usage, and explains that he's not yet certain how they'll meet those goals. Andrew Wanless-Orlebar, VP Strategy at Futerra, who advises companies on their sustainability policies, weighs in.
Of FORTUNE's latest project, Murray says, "This is a passion project for me. Having spent four decades of my life covering the intersection of business and society, I'm convinced some very big changes are underway right now, and I'm eager to explore those changes through interviews with leaders at the forefront."
Leadership Next is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Google Play, FORTUNE.com, and other podcast apps. New episodes are published each Tuesday, with 40 episodes total slated in 2020.
