Fortune Names Transwestern One of the "100 Best Workplaces for Women"
Award Follows Firm's Recognition as the No. 27 "Best Workplace for Millennials"
HOUSTON, Sept. 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Transwestern today announces Great Place to Work® and Fortune magazine have named the commercial real estate firm as one of the "100 Best Workplaces for Women." Transwestern is the only third-party, full-service commercial real estate firm to be recognized. The rankings are based solely on an anonymous survey of more than 135,600 women.
"We are honored each time our workplace environment is nationally recognized," said Larry P. Heard, CEO of Transwestern's family of companies. "We are intentional about creating an empowering culture to highlight the contributions of all of our team members. The number of women seeking careers in commercial real estate has surged over the past 20 years, and our firm has embraced this trend to the benefit of our corporate culture and clients alike."
Transwestern is committed to recruiting women with all skill sets and at all levels within the firm, and it has a national program that promotes women's professional development and career advancement. The company believes a diverse workforce cultivates a positive work environment and best equips its teams to deliver the right solutions to owners, users and investors of real estate.
"Transwestern's dedication to championing our female professionals serves as a differentiator in the marketplace," said Transwestern's Executive Vice President of Human Resources, Colleen Dolan. "Women at all career levels are drawn to Transwestern because of the many benefits offered within our corporate community. This ranking is a testament to Transwestern's unique culture of support and advocacy for women in commercial real estate."
The winning companies were selected based on the evaluations of nearly 135,600 female employees who were surveyed using the Trust Index©, an employee assessment survey by Great Place to Work. Women responded to questions on fairness of the company's promotions, access to information and leadership, inclusiveness and connection with colleagues and support for their personal lives.
Scores also take into account how well-represented women are within the workforce, management and executive positions; how positively women experience their workplace's fairness; and how favorable women's experiences are compared to the 138,000 men also surveyed. According to the survey results, the 100 winning workplaces create a more consistent and inclusive environment for both genders across a range of day-to-day trust-building behaviors, including team members' access to special recognition, fair treatment regardless of role and management's approachability.
"The companies on this list are leaders that recognize the strategic importance of creating workplaces that attract and support the best talent in their industries," said Michael Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work United States. "While specialized programs to support women's equal access to opportunity are often strategic, in many ways it is just an important – and challenging for leaders – to establish a pattern of inclusiveness throughout everyday workplace interactions since there rely on everyone to overcome their blind spots. Ranking on this list is a great indicator that these companies' efforts to create great workplaces are resonating throughout their teams."
The 100 Best Workplaces for Women is part of a series of rankings by Great Place to Work and Fortune based entirely on employee surveys from published Great Place to Work Reviews. In June 2015, Transwestern was named No. 27 on the inaugural "100 Best Workplaces for Millennials" list based on surveys of nearly 90,000 millennials.
