We often forget that for every service member deployed overseas there is a family left behind. Military spouses endure long periods of loneliness, the fear that their husband or wife may not return and the burden of raising a family alone while they are overseas.
An important theme of Military Spouse Day is the solidarity of all military spouses no matter rank or branch of service. As an Army wife of nearly 40 years, Mrs. Casey has gone through the same stresses as all military wives, and she will share her experiences with the other wives in attendance.
By promoting the cohesion and honoring the commitment of the military family community, the event falls in line with the Armed Forces Foundation's motto, "Families Serve Too," and the Army's key message for 2010, "Spouses provide an essential source of strength to the Soldiers, Army, and the Nation."
